Atlantic Technological University (ATU), known in Irish as Ollscoil Teicneolaíochta an Atlantaigh (OTA), is a technological university located in the west and northwest of Ireland. Established on April 1, 2022, ATU was formed by merging three institutes of technology: Galway-Mayo IT, IT Sligo, and Letterkenny IT. This merger made ATU the fourth technological university in Ireland.
The journey towards establishing ATU began with alliances formed in 2012. By 2015, Galway-Mayo IT, IT Sligo, and Letterkenny IT submitted an Expression of Interest to the Higher Education Authority (HEA) to become a Technological University. This collaboration, known as the Connacht-Ulster Alliance (CUA), aimed to create a Technological University in the West of Ireland and County Donegal.
