The ZEISS Women Award encourages more women to seek digital and information technology careers by recognizing deserving female graduates and students.

Female graduates who already hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree or a diploma from the past winter semester of 2023-24 or who are about to graduate at the time of application can apply for this award. Also, those beginning, revising, or waiting on their final thesis results are still eligible to apply.

ZEISS Women Award Categories

The ZEISS Women Award comprises three categories as follows:

1. Digital Research
This category honors applicants for their significant contributions to research projects. Winning projects or papers should be outstanding in the university context, relevant and topical, and contribute to expanding current research. Examples include establishing a novel thesis, extending a research theory to practical feasibility, or refuting a previously valid assumption.

2. Digital Entrepreneurship
This category recognizes applicants who demonstrate innovation and trend-setting in the digital and IT context. It is for projects based on digital products, platforms, or services, such as creating a new business model or founding a start-up. This category also celebrates visionary women taking bold entrepreneurial paths.

3. Digital Social Impact
This category honors applicants who make valuable societal contributions through digital and IT initiatives. It includes founding a non-profit or non-governmental organization, developing technology to address societal challenges, or launching initiatives for social justice, digital education access, or STEM support.

ZEISS Women Award 2024 for Digital and IT Requirements

You must meet the following requirements:

• You must be a female graduate or student in Digital & IT.
• Must have completed or be about to complete a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in the winter semester of 2023/24.
• Must have a significant project, research paper, or initiative in one of the three categories: Digital Research, Digital Entrepreneurship, or Digital Social Impact.
• You cannot apply for more than one category.
• The award is only for individuals; group applications are not eligible.

Required Documents

Below are the required application documents that you must submit for your application:

• Up-to-date resume
• Current grade overview with indication of (expected) final grade
• Abstract of the project/research paper or initiative highlighting its impact and innovation
• Supporting evidence (additional documents as required by the application portal)

Selection Process

The selection process highlights are as follows:

• Initial Screening: The ZEISS team will check the applications for compliance with participation conditions and formal completeness.
• Shortlisting: Candidates who attend the shortlist will receive a call in September.
• Final Evaluation: The jury nominates finalists from the shortlisted candidates.
• Award Ceremony: Winners will be announced and honored in Munich at the ZEISS Women Award ceremony on October 16, 2024.
