Opportunity Details

With the help of this innovative initiative, refugees with strong leadership potential will receive individualized, in-depth coaching that will help them grow into world-class leaders. It will provide a forum for up-and-coming leaders to get the know-how, abilities, connections, and self-assurance necessary to impact and steer the world’s refugee system as well as develop into leaders in other domains.

Key program features:

Every man will:

  • Give the program 20 hours a month for a duration of 12 months.
  • Engage with their vast worldwide network of industry professionals and receive committed mentoring from a senior member of the Pathways International executive team or an affiliated organization.
  • Possess a customized growth plan that they co-created with their designated mentor based on their interests, abilities, and experience.
  • Get $5,000 in professional development funding and a $20,000 stipend to help with the activities in their customized development plan.

What will you do?

The uOttawa Refugee Hub Fellowships for Refugee Leaders present a special chance for persons who have personally experienced forced relocation to further their careers while helping to create more functional international systems and solutions for those who are displaced. Fellows will be integral members of the uOttawa Refugee Hub-Pathways International team, actively participating in one of two work streams:

  • Learn about and get involved in one of their global initiatives or workstreams aimed at expanding the routes leading to refuge for migrants and refugees by visiting the Global Pathways Stream;
  • Learn the fundamentals of social entrepreneurship and nonprofit leadership while supporting organizational growth and tactics to restructure the world’s network of safe and authorized travel routes by enrolling in the strategic leadership stream.

Additionally, both fellows will play a key role in creating a Toolkit for Mentorship of Refugee Leaders and creating a scalable model of successful mentorship for refugee leaders that can be shared with other organizations globally.

uOttawa Refugee Hub Fellowship for Refugee Leaders Requirments

  • Lived through being forcibly relocated.
  • Had a great deal of leadership potential.
  • A track record of consistent, proactive participation in refugee-led organizations (RLOs), refugee advisory groups, or other leadership positions on forced displacement issues with defined responsibilities and functions.
  • A history of influencing refugee policy, initiatives, or practices, as well as social entrepreneurship.
  • Proficiency in English; additional language skills are a plus.

Other abilities that they are seeking:

  • The capacity to cooperate with a variety of partners and teams.
  • Proficiency in both oral and writing communication.
  • A readiness to travel for activities connected to the program.
  • Strong ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • It would help to be familiar with the international system of refugee protection.

    • How specifically would being a part of the uOttawa Refugee Hub Fellowship for Refugee Leaders help you in your leadership development?
    • Describe a leadership position you have held and the results of it in a field or organization that supports refugees.
  • Please submit a five-page, unedited writing sample.
