The University of Trento has reaffirmed its commitment to asylum seekers and refugees as it nears the end of the experimental project “Richiedenti asilo all’Univeristà” (2016–2021). A new project named “Progetto Formazione Universitaria per Rifugiati/e e Richiedenti asilo – FUTURA” will be launched soon.

The University of Trento has reiterated its decision to move forward with a fresh edition of the Call for Applications (in the following), strengthened by experience and with an expanded know how on the guidance methods, the obstacles, and the demands of the project.
One novel feature of the project will be the opportunity to participate in a “insertion year,” which must be finished prior to the commencement of one’s university studies (Foundation Year). The candidates’ goal for the insertion year is to acquire language and cultural competencies that will help them in their university courses as well as be essential for passing the admission exam.
Structure of The FUTURA Program:
Students must complete the project and meet predetermined learning objectives in order to continue.
The degree level attended (Bachelor’s or Master’s) determines the minimum prerequisites and project years:
Bachelor’s Degree:
- Year of project -> Minimum credits to be reached by 5 August
- Foundation year a.y. 2024-2025: passing the admission test, if foreseen (by September 2025)
- 2nd year: 35 ECTS by 5 August 2026
- 3rd year: 75 ECTS by 5 August 2027
- 4th year: 120 ECTS by 5 August 2028
- (possible 5th year): 180 ECTS by 5 August 2029
Master’s degree
Year of project -> Minimum credits to be reached by 5 August
- Foundation year a.y. 2024-2025: obtaining admission requirements and passing admission tests, if any (by September 2025)
- 2nd year: 35 ECTS by 5 August 2026
- 3rd year: 75 ECTS by 5 August 2027
- (possible 4th year): 120 ECTS by 5 August 2028

University of Trento: FUTURA University Education Program for Refugees and Asylum Seekers Requirements
- The project’s recipients are those who possess: asylum seekers’ residency permits, subsidiary protection, special protection, or refugee status.
- Every year, five students will be chosen as part of the initiative. Students from all throughout Italy are welcome to take part.
