The Centre for Ethnography (CE) at the University of Toronto at Scarborough (UTSC) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for its prestigious Fellowship in Ethnographic Writing.
Opportunity Details
Writing is a crucial aspect of anthropological work, requiring dedicated time and distance from fieldwork. In recognition of this, the CE introduced the Fellowship in Ethnographic Writing in 2010, and we are now seeking applicants for the year 2024.
Recipients of this fellowship will commit their full attention to writing and may not undertake teaching or other post-doctoral appointments during the fellowship period. They will participate in CE talks and colloquia, work on campus several days a week, and present their work in progress at the colloquium. Additionally, fellows will provide coaching to undergraduate students working on writing assignments, limited to a total of 5 hours.
The Fellowship in Ethnographic Writing is open to doctoral candidates at Canadian universities and Canadian citizens studying elsewhere who are in the final stages of completing their thesis or have received their PhDs within the past year (2023 or later).
To apply, candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and a statement of no more than 5 double-spaced pages outlining their writing project, timeline, and goals for the fellowship. All materials should be collated into a single PDF document labeled ‘LAST NAME_First name_CEF_2024’.
