Are you an aspiring entrepreneur in Afghanistan looking to transform your ideas into a thriving business? Are you passionate about addressing local challenges and contributing to a resilient agricultural sector? The UNITAR Training for Afghan Youth is designed specifically for you.
The UNITAR Training for Afghan Youth is now accepting applications from Afghan youth, including men and women engaged in sustainable entrepreneurship initiatives such as small-scale agriculture, handicrafts, education, health, and digital businesses. The program also welcomes new Afghan returnees from neighboring countries, aiming to help them establish entrepreneurial activities, enhance financial independence, and contribute to community development.
The training program will run in three phases from August 2024 to March 2025:
- Phase 1 (August to November 2024): 150 participants will engage in online training covering the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and agribusiness. The focus will be on identifying high-potential business start-ups. Activities include self-paced courses, peer discussions, assignments, and expert-led webinars.

- Phase 2 (December 2024 to January 2025):100 top-ranked participants will receive advanced training on entrepreneurial tools and techniques. They will devise solutions for food security challenges, learn about climate-smart agricultural practices, and develop strategies to address environmental constraints.

- Leadership, Strategy, and Innovation in Agribusiness (100 participants)

- Phase 3 (February to March 2025):Approximately 25 top performers will create ready-to-launch blueprints for novel enterprises/projects with significant job creation and resilience-building potential within the agri-food sector. This phase includes online mentorship and coaching, with a possible intensive workshop (details to be decided).

- In-person workshop (25 participants)
- Online group mentoring sessions
- Intensive seminar (online or in person, TBC)
- Impact evaluation
- Graduation
The program is in English, and participants who meet the minimum criteria will receive a UNITAR certificate of completion.
By the end of the program, you will be able to:
- Create jobs and improve livelihoods despite economic challenges and food shortages.
- Drive economic growth and address food security issues through entrepreneurial initiatives.
- Use practical tools and strategies to tackle food security problems.
- Understand climate change effects and adopt effective soil and crop management practices.
- Evaluate food supply chains to optimize resource use and address economic and gender issues.
- Implement technologies to mitigate environmental challenges and enhance community resilience against food insecurity.

UNITAR Training for Afghan Youth 2024 Requirements
Below are the program requirements:
- Age: Between 18 and 35 years old.
- Language Skills: Basic working knowledge of spoken and written English.
- Education: University degree holders are highly encouraged to apply.
- Experience and Interest: Demonstrated interest or experience in agribusiness, food security, or general entrepreneurship.
- Commitment: Willing to commit a minimum of 2-4 hours per week to complete the program.
- Passion: Eager to succeed and make a positive impact on their community.
Selection Process
The selection process is as follows:
- Application Review: UNITAR will review all applications based on the abovementioned criteria.
- Evaluation of Passion and Commitment:Emphasis on applicants’ motivation to learn and contribute to agricultural and economic development in Afghanistan
- Selection for Phases:
- Phase 1: Approximately 150 participants
- Phase 2: Top 100 participants from Phase 1
- Phase 3: Top 25 participants from Phase 2
