The Technical Fellowships program, as well as its French counterpart, Bourses pour l’Afrique Francophone, which supports cancer control in Francophone Africa, are funded by several international cancer societies, organizations, and foundations. Through these programs, professionals in the cancer field can apply for fellowships abroad.

Objectives:

The primary goals of this request for proposals are to:

• Encourage the development of technical knowledge and skills around the globe in all facets of cancer control.
• Increase the capability of the person and the home organization by effectively implementing and sharing the newly gained abilities when you return.
• Encourage the formation of networks of experts in cancer control for the continual exchange of information and best practices as well as the informal delivery of ongoing assistance, direction, or training.

Topics:

The Technical Fellowships program seeks to assist health professionals and cancer specialists who want to advance their knowledge or abilities in the areas specified below. The most appropriate topic and, if applicable, the kind of cancer the applicant works on should be chosen by applicants.

• Cancer prevention
• Causes of cancer
• Cancer registries, analysis of cancer data related to cancer prevention and/or early detection.
• Early detection or pathology related to early detection
• Health economics, universal health coverage and policy, national cancer control plans related to cancer prevention and/or early detection.

Duration of Technical fellowship – Maximum level of funding possible:

• Two weeks – 2,200 USD
• Three weeks – 2,800 USD
• Four weeks – 3,400 USD
• Five weeks – 4,000 USD
• Six weeks – 4,600 USD
• Seven weeks – 5,200 USD
• Eight weeks – 5,800 USD

Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Technical Fellowships Requirments

• The candidate may be of any nationality, but they must live in a World Bank-defined low- or middle-income country. Low and moderate income at the time of application, however they still need to apply to go to another nation as part of their fellowship.
• A Master’s degree is the bare minimum requirement for applicants. In the absence of a higher degree (such as an MD), qualified medical  physicians may be taken into consideration if they now have or will soon possess a board certification (or equivalent) in a cancer-related specialty. RNs with a registered nursing license are also able to apply.
• Prior to applying, all candidates should have at least five years of experience working in the cancer sector.
• No matter if they already have a Master’s degree or the medical equivalent, candidates who are enrolled in a study/educational program, such as medical, Master’s, or PhD students, are unable to apply.
• Applications for visiting institutions without a clearly defined project of work or for attendance or participation in basic training courses, seminars, lectures, meetings, conferences, or congresses are not admissible.
• A fellowship might last anywhere from two to eight weeks. Applications for shorter- or longer-term fellowships are not acceptable.
• Projects with start dates that begin more than 90 days before the deadline for submission are ineligible.
• The candidate must also be an employee, i.e. be on the payroll of a relevant institution, such as university, research laboratory or institute, hospital, oncology unit, registry, or cancer society, where they will return at the conclusion of a fellowship, in order to permit effective communication with the host.
• Candidates affiliated with businesses, as well as those connected to the alcohol, tobacco, or armaments sectors, are not eligible to apply.
• Only One UICC fellowship application may be submitted at a time. Candidates who have previously received a UICC fellowship may only reapply provided they are members of the Association of UICC Fellows and one year has passed since the conclusion of their last fellowship.
