The Prize seeks to advance international collaboration, STEM research, and STEM education to address the global issues covered by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Prize will honor young people’s accomplishments that contribute to socio-economic transformation and development worldwide and raise interest in science among young people, especially girls, and women, to advance gender equality, scientific literacy, and the decision to pursue a career in science. Five laureates from each of UNESCO’s five geographical areas get it every two years (Africa, the Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean).

UNESCO-Al Fozan International Prize Requirements
- Candidates must be under 40 years old by the application deadline.
- Recognition for significant contributions or achievements in:
- Research in STEM (including emerging technologies)
- STEM education or dissemination of research
- Creativity, innovation, or international cooperation in STEM
- Strong emphasis on nominations of young women scientists.
- Self-nominations are not allowed.
- Nominations must come from authorized entities such as UNESCO member states and NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO, universities, or scientific unions.
