About The University of Minnesota Global Excellence Scholarship

The GES awards are highly competitive and based on academic merit. Recipients are typically among the top performers in their high school class and demonstrate exceptional academic preparation. The primary aim of the scholarship is to attract and retain the best international students, providing them with the resources to excel in their studies.

All international first-year and transfer students admitted to the University of Minnesota are automatically considered for the GES. It means there is no separate application process for the scholarship; it is awarded based on an overall assessment of the student’s application for admission. The awards are granted at admission, and continuing students not initially awarded the scholarship are not eligible to apply later.

The University of Minnesota Global Excellence Scholarship Requirments

You must meet the below requirements:

• Admitted as an international freshman or transfer student to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
• Must maintain F-1 visa status
• Must maintain full-time enrollment of at least 13 credits per semester
• Demonstrate strong academic performance

Required Documents

Submit these required materials:

• Completed application for admission to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
• Academic transcripts
• Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)
• Additional documents, as required by the admissions office
