Funding for educational research projects that will increase our understanding of and ability to address racial inequality in education is made available via the Racial Equity Research Grants program. Studies that aim to (re)imagine and establish new models of equitable education as well as those that investigate and obstruct the perpetuation and growth of educational inequality are of interest to them. Therefore, they are drawn to research initiatives that try to conceive educational opportunities across a range of educational systems, levels, contexts, and developmental ranges rather than merely recording the institutions and beliefs that result in persistent racial imbalances.

Objectives

This program’s goal is to promote rigorous, intellectually stimulating, and technically proficient research in order to address the most significant problems and promising opportunities pertaining to racial justice in education. Throughout this grant round, the foundation will keep funding research on a range of communities and equity-related issues. All submission formats are accepted, including mixed-methods, qualitative, and quantitative techniques. Particularly encouraged are proposals that employ social network analysis, geographical mapping, QuantCrit approaches, and other quantitative tools with critical viewpoints.

  • Applications will be accepted by the Spencer Foundation for initiatives with durations of one to five years and funding caps of $75,000 or less.
