The African Union Civic Tech Fund (AUCTF) presents an opportunity for dynamic African initiatives to catalyse and scale their innovative civic tech solutions. If you are harnessing the power of technology to drive citizen-led transformative action across the African continent, this call is for you. Successful recipients of the grant call will receive up to €15000 in financial support to scale and accelerate their civic-tech projects and initiatives. Applications for funding must align with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 – Africa’s blueprint and master plan to deliver on its goal for inclusive and sustainable development. The competition is open to local organizations and projects operating and registered within African countries.

Dynamic African initiatives, projects, and organizations have an opportunity to participate in the AUCTF’s second round. The goal of this 12-month project is to accelerate and scale cutting-edge civic tech solutions that use technology to empower citizens to lead revolutionary change across the African continent. The Fund specifically addresses the need to advance meaningful citizen participation in governance spaces by utilizing data and digital technologies in novel ways to address challenges related to development and governance, while acknowledging the critical role that Africa’s youth play in determining the future of the continent.

 

Benefits of The African Union Civic Tech Fund (AUCTF) 2.0

Financial Support

Financial support will be awarded through multiple rounds focusing on specific geographic and thematic areas. Winners will receive grants of up to € 15,000 to upscale their projects. These grants can be used to scale and grow existing initiatives

Capacity Support

The Fund offers a capacity support program that will be designed and tailored to the specific needs of the selected initiatives. Technical assistance will be offered in the form of workshops, including support from experienced technologists and data scientists, operational guidance, masterclasses, and mentorship sessions

 

The African Union Civic Tech Fund (AUCTF) 2.0 Requirements

You are invited to apply if you:

  • Are an African organisations or initiative registered (or domiciled) in any African Union Member State.
  • Have a project committed to leveraging digital technology for civic engagement, transparency, and communitydriven development.
  • Are led by and addressing the challenges faced by African women, youth and marginalised groups.

Required documents:

  • Completed and submitted application form
  • Company registration document (or that of a registered partner organisation)
  • Most recent organisational report (or proof of activity in the last year)
  • Budget and financial management structure
  • Sustainability strategy
  • Signed letter of recommendation
