About TF-IPS Asia Journalism Fellowship
Opportunity Details
Since 2009, AJF has brought 205 Asian journalists to Singapore. From 2009 until 2016, Nanyang Technological University’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information offered the program.
AJF 2024 will last eight weeks, from July 8, 2024 to August 30, 2024. The first four weeks will be performed online, followed by the next four weeks in Singapore.
Benefits of TF-IPS Asia Journalism Fellowship
- Funding: Fellows will be provided with:
- The cost of the internet for participating virtually in the four-week virtual program is $300.00 Singapore dollars;
- Airfare: One economy return ticket from their home city to Singapore via the quickest route, including the S$50 maximum cost of a VISA;
- Local Airport Transfer: Changi Airport to Serviced Apartment: Singapore Dollars Thirty (S$30.00);
- Allowance: Nine hundred Singapore dollars (S$900.00) as stipend for the time spent in Singapore;
- Insurance:
- Prior to arrival, Fellows must obtain travel insurance covering the entirety of their term in Singapore. Before they leave for Singapore, they will need to see a copy of the Fellows’ travel insurance.
- Accommodation:
- Apartments with services offer free lodging. There will be a kitchen in the flat shared by two or three Fellows. Fellows are discouraged from hosting live-in guests so as not to cause their roommate any trouble.
- Facilities and Resources:
- Internet access in the serviced residences and on the NUS campus, as well as E-Resources from NUS libraries, will be available to fellows. Additionally, licensed Zoom access will be granted to fellows.
TF-IPS Asia Journalism Fellowship Requirements
Applicants must have the following:
- You’ve worked as a professional journalist for at least five years. There is no mention of student journalism.
- Your employers must provide written consent for you to take part in the eight-week Fellowship program, which consists of four weeks spent online and four weeks spent in Singapore.
- You feel at ease speaking in English, which is the AJF program’s working language. They accept journalists from non-English media, albeit you might need to do a phone interview to prove your English language skills.
- Be employed as a journalist in Asia at the moment. If your primary source of income is journalism, you are qualified as a freelancer.
- Your employers must provide written consent for you to take part in the eight-week Fellowship program, which consists of four weeks spent online and four weeks spent in Singapore.
If you are accepted to this programme, you must:
- Be able to guarantee a four-week stay in the designated lodging during the Fellowship. In shared serviced flats, fellows will have private rooms, and they are not permitted to host live-in guests.
- Before you arrive for the Fellowship, get the following travel insurance for the whole length of your stay in Singapore:
- i. Individual travel insurance
- Applicants must see a copy of your travel insurance before you leave for Singapore if you are accepted as a Fellow.
- Make sure you apply for a valid visa in order to enter Singapore. Hold a passport that is valid for at least six months after the date of admission.
Documents Requirement:
- Filled-out application.
- Letter from your employer endorsing your four-week online and four-week in-person participation in AJF. Freelancers are not obliged to complete this. (Sample Letter Download)

- Three to five prior project examples.
- Copies of all pertinent academic records, in the case that they are not in English, with certified translations.
- Completed form under the Personal Data Protection Act.
