The 2020-2024 SVRI strategic plan aims to enhance the evidence basis for policies and programs addressing and preventing VAW and VAC in low and medium income countries (LMICs). The SVRI aims to foster and fund innovative research on VAW and VAC in LMICs, while also encouraging debate in the field.

- Grants in the range of $40,000 to $150,000 with a maximum duration of 18 months are available to applicants.
- Funding is being provided for a restricted time with certain, quantifiable results.
Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Research Grant 2025 Requirments
- Be a part of an officially recognized, duly established research institute or organization that conducts VAW and VAC programs or research. Individuals will not be eligible to receive grants; only institutions will.
- Multidisciplinary and multisector collaborations involving various organizations, such as a local NGO, practice-based agency, and academic institution, or local government and an NGO or academic institution, should be a component of consortiums.
- For consortium proposals, clearly define roles and duties, guarantee fair collaborations, and include a VAW/VAC research specialist. The proposal and budgetary allotment must accurately reflect the partnership structure.
- Proposals led and filed by organizations located in LMICs will be given priority.
Other eligibility considerations to note:
- Up to two proposals may be submitted by organizations or consortiums, but only one will get funding.
- Former recipients of grants won’t be taken into account as primary applicants.
- Organizations with a current SVRI grant are not eligible to apply.
- Applications for grants that suggest doing work for the World Bank Group, UN agencies, or other multilateral organizations will not be taken into consideration.
- The prevention and/or response of VAW and/or VAC in LMICs should be the main emphasis of all studies funded by this call.
What They Like to see in your Proposals?
In terms of selection, they like to see proposals that:
- Are members of interdisciplinary, multisector consortia, particularly those headed by researchers or evidence builders who live in LMICs; and/or local organizations situated in LMICs.
- Adopt an intersectional perspective while conducting research and, when appropriate, ethically and relevant, involve communities.
- Clearly define roles and duties for consortium proposals, guaranteeing fair collaborations and incorporating a VAW/VAC research specialist.
- Highlight initiatives aimed at enhancing the capabilities of LMIC early-career researchers.
- Clearly and fully describe the methods for disseminating findings in an efficient manner.
- Present a rational budget that is easy to understand and has solid support.
In your proposal, please also ensure that you:
- Give a concise explanation up front of how your research expands on the data available today and demonstrates how you have investigated and refined prior research.
- Clearly state how your study fills a knowledge vacuum in the area, with a focus on VAW/CSV research and activities in LMICs.
- Show how your work will improve methodology in the field or strengthen policy and practice.
Research Supported by the SVRI Research Grant should:
- Expand on their knowledge and comprehension.
- Incorporate feminist and women-centered concepts into collaborations and research.
- Encourage fair participation and include a range of perspectives from low- and middle-income nations (young researchers, practitioners, survivors, and marginalized groups) in the field.
- Comply with global safety and moral standards.
- Aim for creativity in concepts, fresh approaches, and collaborations while expanding on previously collected data.
- Make an effort to be cross-disciplinary, cross-sectoral, and cooperative.
- Make an effort to involve the community where the research will be conducted, when relevant and suitable.
- To advance gender equality, question the gender hierarchy that fuels VAW and VAC.
- Provide guidance for policies, programs, and services, and improve survivors’ access to all-encompassing care and support.
