About Sasol Foundation Mainstream Bursary Programme

Opportunity Details

Sasol awards bursaries for full-time university studies in Engineering and Science. Upon successful completion of the study period, students may be employed within the Sasol Group through our Graduate Development Programmes.  Note must be taken that Sasol Mainstream bursaries have a workback and/or payback obligation.  Please note that this bursary programme does not accept Technical Maths/Math’s literacy.

The Sasol Bursary Programme comprises:

Applications may be submitted for degrees (no diplomas) in one of the following fields of study:

Undergraduate Studies (B.Eng. / B.Sc.) – Please note that this bursary program does not accept Technical Maths/Math’s literacy.

  2. Chemistry (Studies to Hons. level will be required)
  3. Civil Engineering
  4. Data Science – Computer Science
  5. Data Science – Mathematics
  6. Data Science – Operations Research
  7. Data Science – Statistics
  8. Electrical Engineering
  9. Electronic Engineering
  10. Geology  (Studies to Hons. level will be required)
  11. Industrial Engineering
  12. Mechanical Engineering
  13. Metallurgy (Studies to Hons. level will be required)
  14. Mining Engineering

 

Undergraduate Studies (B. Eng. Tech.) – University of Technology

Postgraduate (M.Sc. / M.Eng. / PhD.)

In order to meet the economic growth needs in South Africa and fulfill our internal demand for highly skilled postgraduates in science and engineering fields, Sasol grants postgraduate bursaries for M.Sc., M.Eng., and Ph.D. studies in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.  Please note that this bursary program does not accept technical Maths/math’s literacy.

These awards will be made for postgraduate research supporting Sasol and South Africa’s energy and circular economy transition, through application in the following core disciplines: 

  1. Chemical Engineering – Fluid Dynamics 
  2. Chemical Engineering – Mathematical and Statistical Modelling 
  3. Chemical Engineering – Process Modelling 
  4. Chemical Engineering – Reactor Technology 
  5. Chemical Engineering – Separation Technology 
  6. Chemical Engineering – Thermodynamics 
  7. Chemistry – Advance analytical Chemistry in the areas of Vibrational Spectroscopy or Gas Chromatography 
  8. Chemistry – Catalysis or Polymer Science 
  9. Chemistry – Environmental Science in the areas of Water, Waste or Air, or in Air with focus on dispersion modelling
  10. Cyber Security 
  11. Data Science – Applied Mathematics 
  12. Data Science – Statistics  

 Applicants are not required to have a formal project proposal ready but should know in which area of chemistry or chemical engineering they would like to study and must be able to discuss possible topics which will support the current sustainability imperatives. 

Successful candidates will engage with Sasol technical experts and academic supervisors to finalise a project proposal.

Benefits of Sasol Foundation Mainstream Bursary Programme

The Sasol Bursary programme comprises of a comprehensive package that includes both financial as well as developmental support throughout the study period. Here’s a breakdown:

Sasol Mainstream Undergraduate Bursaries:

  1. 100% of the prescribed University tuition fees, registration fees and exam fees.
  2. An amount equal to the average rate for accommodation in a single room at a University residence at which the Sasol bursar is studying. This rate is determined by Sasol in conjunction with the university.
  3. An amount for meals based on three meals per day, as determined by the University.
  4. An amount of approximately R12 000,00 per annum, towards book and pocket money.

 

Sasol Mainstream Postgraduate Bursaries:

  1. Monthly stipend for the duration of your studies to pay for registration fees, tuition, research cost, accommodation and all other expenses related to their studies.
  2. No additional cost/expenses will be covered by Sasol.
  3. The mentioned stipend is pre-determined and will be paid from the date that proof of registration for the degree involved can be submitted.
  4. Access to Sasol technical mentors for support during studies.
  5. Once finished with their studies, Sasol postgraduates have the opportunity to join the Sasol Graduate Development programme as a Scientist-in-Training or Engineer-in-Training. (Sasol approved rules/regulations and the clauses of the bursary contract will be applicable.)

Sasol Foundation Mainstream Bursary Programme Requirements

To be considered for the Sasol Mainstream Undergraduate bursary, the applicant must meet the following minimum criteria:

  1. Must be a South African Citizen
  2. Registered or qualifying for possible registration at an approved South-African University or University of Technology for the following year
  3. Bursary offered to talented individuals who are planning to study full-timetowards an undergraduate / postgraduate degree, to pursue selected Engineering, Science and Technology qualification for applicants nationally.

Steps to follow when completing the bursary application form

  • On the Home page Click on Log In
  • Select Register
  • Fill in the required details and tick the CAPTCHA button
  • Click on – Create New Account
  • You will receive an activation email, click on Activate Account
  • It will lead you to screen to verify email and create password
  • Upon creation, you will be back on the log in page
  • Enter your email and password
  • You have logged in
  • Click on Sasol Mainstream Bursary application 
  • Supply required information
  • Read Disclaimer
  • Accept Disclaimer to proceed by clicking on the white button turning it blue
  • You can exit the page once you receive a response on your application (which will also be emailed to you)

Previously Registered

  • Click on login
  • Supply login information
  • The form will take you to the section you have not completed

Forgot Password

  • Previously registered user forgot password
  • Click on request new password
  • Supply email address you registered with
  • A password reset will be e-mailed to original registered e-mail address
  • Once you receive your password via e-mail, continue with login process

General Notes

  • Each completed section will have a blue mark on the navigation at the top
  • The save and continue button allocated at the bottom of each section enables you to save your data
  • Click on save and continue before you exit or continue to the next section
  • If a section is incomplete and you click submit, the page will give you error messages
  • You may logout from the application form and use the login screen to complete your application form at a later stage before date of closure. You will not be able to edit sections that you have submitted.
