Opportunity Details
The eleventh edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship is launched. It is aimed, this year again, at all young journalists and reporting technicians under the age of 35 who have already worked in the radio field for at least two years, and who reside in one of the following French-speaking countries: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Comoros, Congo, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritius, Mauritania, Niger, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Seychelles, Chad, Togo, Tunisia and Rwanda.
Created in tribute to its two reporters assassinated on November 2, 2013 in Kidal, in northern Mali, this Scholarship rewards each year a young African journalist and a young technician. Ten candidate journalists and ten candidate technicians will be selected on the basis of their application and then invited to attend workshops from October 14 to 29, 2024, provided by RFI's internal training department, at the SRTB premises in Cotonou. At the end of these days, the jury will meet to designate the winners, both journalists and technicians, of the Scholarship who will benefit from four weeks of fully-funded training in Paris during the first quarter of 2025.
On the occasion of this eleventh edition, a new "Prix de l'association des Amis de Ghislaine Dupont et Claude Verlon" is created. It will reward two deserving candidates who did not win the Scholarship by awarding them a material grant that will be useful to them for the rest of their career. It will also be designated by the jury of the Ghislaine Dupont et Claude Verlon Scholarship, as well as by a representative of the association "Les Amis de Ghislaine Dupont et Claude Verlon".
The scholarship will be awarded on November 2 , the date declared by the United Nations as the " International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists " in memory of Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon. The scholarship will be awarded at a ceremony in Cotonou. The winners will benefit from a one-month training course in Paris.
The jury will be composed in particular of representatives from the France Médias Monde group, the Sciences Po School of Journalism and the INA, a representative of the media in Benin, and a representative of the Association of Friends of Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon.
