Opportunity Details
The intern will contribute to the RJF’s mission by participating in publishing, communications, and research activities and collaborating with the RJF’s manager (based in Bangkok) and regional coordinators (based in Brazil, Indonesia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo). The intern’s primary responsibilities will be with the Rainforest Journalism Fund, but there will be opportunities to learn from and collaborate with other Pulitzer Center teams.
The Rainforest Journalism Fund (RJF), established in September 2018, is a significant investment in international environmental and climate reporting. The RJF will support almost 200 original reporting projects through the Pulitzer Center over the next five years and annual regional conferences aimed at raising the level of reporting on global tropical rainforest issues such as deforestation & climate change – resulting in stories that matter. The RJF will provide assistance and capacity building to local and regional reporters based in the Amazon Basin, the Congo Basin, Southeast Asia, and international reporters working in those regions. The Norwegian International Climate and Forest Initiative support the RJF (NICFI).
Responsibilities:
Website administration: Assist the RJF communications lead in maintaining the RJF website. The intern will be in charge of updating the website from the backend and creating RJF posts for the RJF & Pulitzer Center websites. Resources and blogs: Coordination or (co)author blog posts about RJF events & content and resource summaries for the RJF website.
Social Media: Assist the RJF and Pulitzer Center teams in creating content or posts for social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and so on) to promote RJF projects, opportunities, and resources.
Newsletter: Assist the RJF and Pulitzer Center teams with creating a newsletter & other resources (identifying target audiences, assessing survey results, working on templates and plans).
Support for the coordination and updating of RJF media landscape mapping. The intern would help the RJF and Pulitzer Center compile, advance, and update research on media landscapes in the RJF’s primary target regions (Amazon, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia) and globally.
Mapping of content: Co-manage the RJF and rainforest-related story mapping. The intern would collaborate with others to update and evaluate the content theme and topic of RJF-supported stories.
Assist the RJF team in developing tip sheets or resources for RJF promotion activities.
Publishing RJF stories: Work with the RJF’s communication lead to coordinate the review of RJF-supported stories and edit them following the Pulitzer Center’s editorial and website guidelines.
Work with the RJF manager to compile and translate RJF stories and website materials.
Support the RJF manager and team in coordinating in-person or virtual events (outreach, workshops, webinars). Support in developing plans, managing logistics, & implementing events/sessions as part of a team.
Event documentation: To highlight events/sessions, the intern can create event announcements, document events, and interview participants.
