About PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival for Youth
Opportunity Details
This event is open to young people who are interested in the interconnected topics of migration, social inclusion, diversity, and anti-xenophobia. This event is open to applicants from any country who are 25 or younger at the time of video creation. The contestant must have worked on the film as a director, editor, actor, writer, cameraman, or coordinator. PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival is a joint effort of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration.
Categories:
PLURAL+ has three age categories:
- Up to 12 years old
- 13 to 17 years old
- 18 to 25 years old
Additionally, UNAOC and IOM confer three Special Recognitions:
- Combating Xenophobia and Discrimination is a film that promotes mutual respect and highlights global challenges of xenophobia and discrimination.
- Sport for One Humanity award for a video promoting sports as a constructive and necessary instrument for bringing people together.
- The Migrants’ Contributions to Societies award is given to the best film that demonstrates the economic and social benefits of migrants and diverse populations in host countries.
Note: The competition is not open to immediate family members of IOM staff, United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) members, or members of the PLURAL+ International Jury.
Themes:
- Video contributions should be used as a platform for young people to share their ideas and perspectives on any number of the major PLURAL+ themes, which include social inclusion, diversity, migration, and the fight against xenophobia. PLURAL+ views youth as influential change agents in society.
- Any genre is acceptable for PLURAL+ video entries, including animation, documentaries, music videos, comedies, and more, as long as they have the capacity to encourage positive thought among viewers about the cross-cutting social issues related to the program’s themes, which can include racism and discrimination as well as peace and human rights. - PLURAL+ video contributions must not be made for profit, nor should they include any unpleasant or inappropriate content or profanity that some viewers could find objectionable.
Benefits of PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival for Youth
All participants will benefit from the event as follows:
- The PLURAL+ Ceremony location will be invited to the recipients, and UNAOC will cover all costs.
- Recipients of PLURAL+ will be exposed to a global audience, have the chance to network with numerous experts, organizations, and peers, and investigate options for expanding the distribution and dissemination of their work.
- Digital certificates will be given to all filmmakers who have won any of the six PLURAL+ distinctions as well as those who are PLURAL+ Partners. PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival for Youth Requirements
Applicants should meet the below requirements:
- Any nationality is acceptable for applicants.
- Should be youthful and fit the previously stated age requirements.
- Filmmakers can collaborate on a single project and submit it as a group.
- Videos by filmmakers should address xenophobia, diversity, social inclusion, and migration.
- Members of the PLURAL+ International Jury, IOM employees, and the UNAOC’s immediate family are not permitted to enter this competition.
PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival entries should be:
- With titles and opening or closing credits, the duration ranges from one to five minutes.
- The video needs to be in English or have subtitles in English.
- Manufactured after January 1, 2021.
- Video entries for PLURAL+ can be in any genre, including comedy, animation, documentaries, and music videos.
- If chosen, participants must send in a digital copy of their video in one of the following file types: FLV, AVI, MKV, MP4, QT, or MOV. HD is preferred (1920 x 1080).
Application Date and Process
To submit a video for consideration, applicants should complete it by visiting the link to the application website. The form will ask the applicant to submit their videos in one of two ways:
- Via a website that streams videos, such Vimeo or YouTube, by entering the video’s URL in the online form. Verify that the video connection is open and not protected.
- This option also includes the video’s URL in the online form, which the contestant saved on a file-hosting website like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Box. Verify that the video connection is open and not protected.
