Interns at the OECD work alongside policy experts, analysts, and specialists, assisting with research, preparing studies, analyzing data, and contributing to the creation of essential policy documents. This role provides exposure to diverse areas such as the digital economy, environment, finance, and public health while developing skills for a future career in international policy or research.

OECD internships are available on a rolling basis. They offer flexible work arrangements, including in-person, hybrid, or remote options, depending on team needs. This makes the internship suitable for students worldwide, providing both an enriching learning experience and the opportunity to contribute to impactful global issues.
 

What you might do:

  • Prepare studies and documents
  • Carry out research and reviews of existing materials
  • Collect, organise and analyse data
  • Support the production of documents, working papers and publications resulting from the above activities, including drafting notes and preparing technical annexes
  • Take part in meetings and seminars
  • Liaise and build networks with officials in national administrations, researchers, other international organisations and delegations from member country
  • Support the organisation of events, communication, planning and evaluation

Benefits of OECD Internship Program

Allowance and benefits

The OECD grants a contribution to living expenses of €1 000 per full month worked to interns located in Paris. Interns are entitled to annual leave that amounts to two and a half working days for each full month worked. French public holidays are also observed.

OECD Internship Program Requirements

Internships are open for students who:

  • Are enrolled in a full-time degree programme* for the duration of the internship in a field or discipline related to the work of the OECD
  • Are available for a minimum internship duration of one month
  • Have an excellent command of one of the two official languages of the OECD (English and French) and a working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the other. Knowledge of other languages could be an advantage
  • Have good quantitative and IT skills
  • Have good drafting and communication skills
  • Thrive in a multicultural and international team environment.

The majority of internships are based at the OECD’s headquarters in Paris (France). Internships are primarily allocated to OECD member country nationals, while also open to non-OECD Member country nationals for specific programmes and projects, including across OECD-affiliated bodies and agencies (e.g. International Energy Agency, Nuclear Energy Agency, Financial Action Task Force or International Transport Forum). 

* Online courses and programmes that do not require physical attendance or other forms of academic programmes that do not award students with a degree will not be recognised as accredited programmes. 
 

Required Documents 

Interns should submit the following documents:

  • Passport scan
  • Cover letter
  • Proof that you are a full-time student at an academic institution.
  • Medical Insurance
  • A scanned copy of the visa or work authorization
  • Account information of a French bank. (after you start working at the OCED, it will be necessary)

Internship duration

The duration of the internship is for a period between one and six months (renewable up to a total of twelve months), on a full-time basis (40 hours per week). In exceptional circumstances, part-time internships (minimum 20 hours per week) can be organised. The OECD encourages potential interns to pursue an internship of at least four months to make the best of their internship experience at the OECD. 

Internship start dates will be set based on interns’ availability and the OECD hiring teams’ needs. Therefore, do not forget to specify your availability in your application. 

Application Date and Process

The selection process consists of four main stages:

  1. Online application and cover letter: fill in your application details on the SmartRecruiters online application platform. Please provide your cover letter in the “Message to Hiring Manager” box.
  2. Pre-screening: all applications are screened by the Internship Office and suitable candidates placed on a shortlist made available to OECD Directorates.
  3. Interview and/or written test: hiring teams may invite candidates to an interview and/or to complete a written test.
  4. Internship agreement: selected candidates receive an internship offer and will be asked to sign an internship agreement.
