The Award is an initiative to honor Asian innovation, sponsored by Nikkei Inc. “Innovation from Asia” encompasses any endeavor that advances both Asian and worldwide change and aids in the creation of a free and flourishing economic society from an Asian viewpoint grounded in a variety of principles. Each year, the winner is a person or group in charge of a particular task. People and/or organizations receive recognition for their contributions to fields like commerce, science, technology, and the arts and social sciences.

Nikkei Asia Award 2024 for Innovators Requirements

  • Candidates must be nominated by others. Directly submitted applications will not be accepted.
  • Originate in or dwell in Asia.
  • Engaging in Asian-centric activities that originate in Asia.
  • People and groups who are only citizens of Japan will be turned away.

The following nations are referred to as “Asia” for the Nikkei Asia Award:

  1. Eastern Asia (Korean Peninsula, China, etc.)
  2. Asia-Pacific region (Indochina, ASEAN member countries, etc.)
  3. Southwestern Asia (Indian subcontinent countries)
  4. Countries that are independent in the Asia-Pacific region

Nomination Requirements:

  • The individual’s personal details
  • Personal information of the nominee
  • Name of Activity
  • Motivation for Nomination
  • Give a thorough explanation of what about the candidate’s actions are creative.
  • Worldwide Growth and Social Effects: Describe how the actions will affect society, how the target locations will grow, and whether global growth is possible.
  • Prospect for the Future: Explain the continuation, expansion, and potential for future growth of the aforementioned activities. Tell them everything you know about funding, including if you have a national research fund, are funded by a venture capital firm, or are an initial public offering.
  • The biography of the nominee
  • Citations like:
  1. Publication (media, academic journal, etc.)
  2. Award
  3. Candidate’s Social Media Account or website, & more. 
  4. 3. Video (press, YouTube, etc.)

Ideal Candidate’s Profile:

The following are the ideal candidates:

  • If young people have received recognition for their work, they are encouraged to continue working.
  • As long as a candidate has demonstrated a persistent earnest attempt to better people’s lives and advance prosperity, notoriety is necessary.
  • If you had already received honors such as the Nobel Prize or the Kyoto Prize, it wouldn’t matter much.

Selection Process

There are 6 steps:

  1. Screening:
    The Nikkei Asia Award Admin will check all the data, including recommendation remarks and candidate information supplied in the nomination form, to see if it complies with the requirements for applications and the evaluation standards.
  2. Primary Selection:
    The Nikkei Selection Committee will assess each candidate’s actions based on the evaluation criteria. The top five people or teams will move on to the second selection round.
  3. Secondary Selection:
    The advisory board members will assess each applicant who advances to the secondary selection based on the evaluation criteria.
  4. Final Selection:
    Following the evaluation criteria, the selection committee chooses the finalists.
  5. Informal Decision:
    Notify the award winners that they have won, and then get their permission to give them the prize.
  6. Official Announcement:
    The Nikkei, the Nikkei Asia, and this website will publish the award recipients’ names.

Evaluation Criteria:

The process of choosing the winners involves a thorough assessment of all entries that satisfy the following evaluation criteria:

  • Being creative and inventive
  • Revitalizing the region and improving people’s lives in order to establish a free and thriving economic society
  • Maintaining a consistent level of activity and entrepreneurship, together with anticipating future growth and expansion; having societal influence and global goals.
