The New Media Writing Prize (NMWP) 2024-25 offers a unique opportunity for writers to push the boundaries of storytelling by integrating digital media, platforms, and interactivity. This prestigious competition is open to writers of all ages and nationalities, inviting them to share their inventive stories and poetry.

Now in its 14th year, NMWP promotes the future of the written word by embracing the limitless potential of new media. From poetry to immersive stories, the competition encourages a wide spectrum of innovative works that reflect the dynamic world of storytelling. Past participants have gained international recognition, and many winners have had their works archived in the British Library.

With the support of Bournemouth University and other prominent organizations, the NMWP fosters a creative community where storytelling and technology meet. Whether you’re an established writer or just starting, this competition offers a platform to share your work and be celebrated globally.

Benefits of New Media Writing Prize Competition

There are several awards in this Competition that participants can submit their entries and win. The prizes are as follows:

  • The Chris Meade Memorial New Media Writing Prize: £1000
  • The Student Award: To Be Determined 
  • The Opening Up Award: £500 
  • The Digital Journalism Award: To Be Determined 
  • The IDN for Social Good Award: £500
  • No submission fee or costs

New Media Writing Prize Competition Requirements

There are prerequisites that participants must follow and agree to so that their entries are considered for the Competition as follows:

  • Entry is open for all nationalities and ages
  • Entries must be in English
  • Entries must not be text-only stories or poem 
  • All works for this Competition must be original and not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party. The entry copy right is safe for the entrant (s). 
  • Each entry should have the following information within the text of an online form:
  1. Title of the work
  2. Entrant’s contact details 
  3. Access details of the entry, such as URL or codes for apps
  4. Short autobiography of the entrants (50-100 words)
  5. Student entrants should provide proof of identity 
  6. Should not upload more attachments
  • Should agree that BU uses their work in BU’s corporate publications, on the BU website, New Media Writing Prize partners’ websites, and in BU’s advertising and marketing materials for display purposes.
  • Should agree to grant permission for their work to achieve in the NEXT collections and the New Media Writing Prize Collection at the British Library and 
  • Should meet all other requirements set for this Competition
