New America Us@250 Fellowship 2024 (Up to $10,000) Requirements
- They are seeking longform writers covering local human-interest stories that explore the basic themes of reckoning, aspiration, and pride for the second annual fellowship class (2024–2025).
- Journalists and reporters who are working on local stories about communities that come together despite differences to tackle difficult problems, address local history, or foster community in a divisive nation are the ideal candidates for this fellowship, whether they are employed by a newsroom or independently. The divisions could be based on class, religion, race or ethnicity, generation, partisanship, or another factor.
- Stories from underserved or rural places, as well as those from communities going through substantial change (such as dramatic changes in the economy, population, or social challenges), particularly pique their attention. The work would have a really local focus rather than only providing snippets of a larger national conversation. Throughout the fellowship, fellows will carry on with their work in their respective communities as it is a nonresident fellowship.
- All of the candidates for the Us@250 fellowship have one thing in common: they are engaged in public life and focus on the past, present, or future of the nation while promoting exchanges between individuals from different backgrounds.
- Fellows can be reporters or journalists at any level of their careers, and they must have produced a feature or longform story (three to five thousand words) in the past. A publishable article will be the fellowship deliverable.
