About National Scholarship Program of Slovak 2024/2025

Opportunity Details

The Slovak Republic established this scholarship in 2005 to encourage students, Ph.D., university teachers, researchers, and artists to pursue their studies at higher education institutions and research organizations in Slovakia. The budgets for this scholarship are from the state budgets of the Slovak Republic and the European Union -NextGenerationEU in the investment framework.

The National Scholarship Program of the Slovak helps Ph.D. students, university teachers, researchers, and artists with their study, research, teaching, and artistic mobility at higher education institutions and research organizations. These scholarships are towards living costs during the stay and travel allowances

This program supports two-way mobility:

  • International scholarship holders to Slovakia
  • Slovak scholarship holders abroad.

Eligible Countries: All Countries except the citizens of Slovakia

Duration of a Scholarship: 1 – 10 months

Application Deadline: 31 October 2024- scholarship for the following year, the next academic year

 

Benefits of National Scholarship Program of Slovak 2024/2025

The scholarship supports international students’ living expenses and travel allowances while studying, conducting research, creating art, or teaching at Slovakian universities. Please read the details of the National Scholarship Program of Slovak as follows:

  • University Student of master’s degree: 620 EUR
  • PhD Student: 1025.50 EUR
  • University Teacher, Researcher, and Artists:
    • Without PhD (or equivalent) and < 4 years experience: 1025.50 EUR
    • With PhD (or equivalent) and < 10 years experience: 1370 EUR
    • With PhD (or equivalent) and > 10 years experience: 1470 EUR

Travel Grant

This grant is for students and PhD students in categories A and B). Applicants should apply for this grant using the scholarship application. A lump sum is paid at the end of the stay with the last scholarship payment.

Allowance Amount (based on distance in a direct line):

    • Up to 200 km: 0 €
    • 200 – 300 km: 50 €
    • 300 – 500 km: 100 €
    • 500 – 1,000 km: 250 €
    • 1,000 – 2,000 km: 350 €
    • 2,000 – 3,000 km: 500 €
    • 3,000 – 5,000 km: 750 €
    • 5,000 – 7,000 km: 1,100 €
    • Over 7,000 km: 1,500 €

Important Notes:

  • International applicants needing a visa for Slovakia should account for the following:
    • Time to collect necessary documents for visa/temporary residence permit
    • Time for document delivery from SAIA
    • Time for visa appointment
    • Visa issuance time
  • Check with Slovak Republic Embassies abroad for current visa application procedures.

 

National Scholarship Program of Slovak 2024/2025 Requirements

To apply for the National Scholarship Program of Slovak, all applicants should meet specific criteria set for each category:

A) University Students (Non-Slovakia):

  • Applicants must be studying outside Slovakia.
  • Must be master’s students or have completed at least 2.5 years of university in the same/similar program.
  • Must be accepted by a Slovak higher education institution for academic mobility.
  • Duration: 1–2 semesters (4–10 months) or 1–3 trimesters (3–10 months).

B) PhD Students:

  • Must be pursuing higher education or scientific training outside Slovakia.
  • Must be accepted by a Slovak higher education or research institution for academic mobility.
  • Duration: 1–10 months.

C) International University Teachers, Researchers, and Artists:

  • Must be invited by a Slovak institution with a valid research and development certificate.
  • Duration: 1–10 months.

Conditions for Re-application:

  • At least two years must pass between the end of the previous scholarship and the new application deadline.
  • Exceptions may apply for extraordinary circumstances (e.g., pandemic, military conflict).

Ineligible Applicants:

  • Students and PhD students pursuing full degree programs in Slovakia.
  • University teachers, researchers, and artists with a PhD and over four years of work experience (some exceptions apply).
  • Applicants who have spent 15+ months in Slovakia within the last 36 months.
  • Applicants funded by other public scholarship programs (e.g., Erasmus+, International Visegrad Fund)

Required Documents

All applicants should submit the following particular documents needed for the National Scholarship Program of Slovak:

International Students should submit the following:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Motivation letter
  • Detailed study program
  • Two recommendation letters from the university teachers
  • Certification from the applicant’s home university attesting to full-time enrollment of the applicant at the time of application
  • A copy of the applicant’s undergraduate degree, the diploma supplement, and the state examination certificate. (Optional)
  • An admissions letter or invitation letter from the candidate’s host university in Slovakia explaining the duration of the stay is required.

International Ph.D. Students should submit the following:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Motivation letter
  • Detailed study/research/artistic program
  • Recommendation letter from the candidates’ dissertation supervisor
  • A statement from the applicant’s research organization or home university attesting that the applicant is a regular Ph.D. student as of the application deadline
  • Copy of the candidate’s state examination certificate, Master’s degree, and diploma supplement in a scannable format. (Optional)
  • List of creative endeavors and publications in the necessary format
  • Admission or invitation letter from the candidate’s Slovakian host university or research organization stipulating the stay duration in the proper format.

Documents Requirement for International University Teachers/Researchers/ and Artists:

  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Detailed teaching, research, or artistic program
  • Scan of the highest academic degree diploma achieved
  • List of creative endeavors and publications in the necessary format
  • Admission or invitation letter from the applicant’s Slovakian host university or research organization specifying the duration of the stay in the proper format.

Note: Only Slovak or English are acceptable languages for the required documents to submit (fill out) applications and the necessary attachments.

Application Date and Process

Applicants can apply via the online application portal. Click on the link to the application website to access this portal. Please note that the portal will open six weeks before the deadline. Applicants can only fill out and submit their applications if the system has already opened.

Note: All documents should be in Slovak or English to submit (fill out). Documents written in other languages must have Slovak or English translations done by an official translator. The issuing organization of the original documents should validate the translated documents.
