Merck Group have been providing a number of research grants since 2018 in an effort to promote creative inquiry in difficult but potentially significant future fields. Up to three years’ worth of grants totaling up to 500,000 euros have been made available. Grants in the region are available in 2024, as further detailed below.
- Methods of discovery for alternative protein-protein interaction stabilizers and molecular glue degraders One award, up to 100,000 euros year, for a maximum of three years, with the possibility of additional cooperation
- Digital Twin for Augmented Reality One grant, worth up to 120,000 euros annually for a year, with the possibility of additional cooperation
- AI-Driven Drug Discovery: up to three grants totaling one-year licenses for AIDDISON software, with the possibility of additional partnership

Merck Group Research Grant in Green Hydrogen Requirements
Submission is open to candidates who meet the following requirements:
- Scientists from all over the globe can apply
- Researchers in all career stages affiliated with any institution, university, or company research.
What is a Deep-Dive Workshop?
- Top submitters who have been invited will engage with Merck experts to develop their research proposals extensively during the intensive sessions, all while maintaining secrecy. Participants are required to sign an agreement for this reason. Following the workshop, participants will present their refined research plans, and Merck will choose the most deserving candidates to advance to the program’s third round.
- Applicants with bilateral partnership agreements will receive the money and be able to begin their project after the conclusion of the in-depth dive session.
Application Date and Process
Candidates submit their applications with just non-confidential information in the initial stage of the application process. Candidates may submit more than one grant or category application. Those who are selected for further consideration will be invited to attend a comprehensive workshop and submit a detailed proposal under strict confidentially. The decision about the applications will be communicated to all candidates by the selection committee.
The collaborative deep-dive workshop is the second step in the grant application process. Finalists will collaborate with Merck management and scientists to optimize project concepts after completing their complete submissions. In October, a notice will be sent to every team that reaches this level. The dates of these sessions are November 2024. The recipients of the research grants will be chosen at the end of the workshops.
The financing phase for research grants is the third step. To begin project execution and payment, Merck will sign a bilateral collaboration agreement with the winners. This exceptional chance assists researchers who are interested in collaborating with Merck scientists and getting advice from business leaders. The winners will meet on a regular basis with Merck scientists during the grant term.
