Opportunity Details
Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) gets ready to open entries for the 8th edition of the Isu Elihle Awards that honors groundbreaking Journalism that amplifies the stories and experiences of Africa’s children!
The Isu Elihle Awards Competition is an African initiative that promotes ethical and quality reporting on children’s issues. Isu Elihle, meaning “great idea” in isiZulu, challenges journalists to submit innovative story ideas that center children’s voices and hold authorities accountable.
The competition aims to empower journalists through mentorship, resource sharing, and financial support to develop and publish their child-focused stories on any mainstream news platform. It rewards innovative journalism about children and encourages journalists to rethink how they perceive and engage children on issues affecting them. The journey from initial idea to final published story demonstrates remarkable growth in storytelling.
This groundbreaking initiative fosters high-quality, child-centric journalism that amplifies children’s perspectives and drives positive change in media coverage of their issues.
The final stories will be ranked once they have been published or broadcast, and the final cash prizes will be awarded: ZAR 25 000 (Overall Winner); ZAR 15 000 (2nd place); ZAR 10 000(Third Place).
Applications for this year’s awards open on 1 May 2024 and will close at midnight on 30 May 2024 CAT. Follow MMA on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to receive the entry form link or visit the Isu EihleAward’s website www.isuelihle.org
