According to the World Health Organization WHO, nearly 1.2 million people are killed in road traffic crashes each year – more than 2 every minute – representing the leading global cause of death among children and young adults aged 5 – 29.  The Road Safety Reporting Competition and Awards are implemented through ICFJ, supported by the FIA Foundation Richard Stanley Memorial Grant and the WHO through funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies, to raise awareness and spur dialogue around critical, yet under-reported, road safety issues.

 

Benefits of ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition for Journalists

Prizes will be awarded to journalists to support and contribute to the advancement of their work on road safety.

ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition for Journalists Requirments

  • Have published in media outlets in Brazil, Botswana, India, Mexico, Nepal or Nigeria.
  • Have published at least one story related to road safety. This contest will accept multimedia submissions, not solely print media.
  • Submit a resume/curriculum vitae.
  • To be considered, a road safety story must be published between January 1, 2024, and October 29, 2024.
