Art School Africa is looking for a Research and Project Strategist Intern to support their research-driven initiatives and help develop a culminating project that synthesizes and builds on insights from our past research reports. This role will focus on transforming years of data and analysis into actionable outcomes that advance the organization's mission.

Opportunity Details
Internship Structure (9 weeks):
- Weeks 1 - 6 (Cape Town): Work closely with ASA founder Julia Buchanan Swart to design and implement a strategy based on previous research. Projects may include an online workshop series, exhibition, or other initiatives addressing ecosystem needs while offering solutions relevant across Africa.
- Weeks 7 - 8 (Morocco): Conduct immersive field research, exploring the local art ecosystem’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities. Apply these findings to refine the strategy and contribute to promoting and empowering local artists.
- Week 9 (USA): Finalize and submit a comprehensive research report.
Responsibilities:
- Design and refine surveys and interview questions for in-depth research.
- Conduct field research during immersion, attending art events and interviewing practitioners.
- Analyze feedback on ASA initiatives to enhance user experience and impact.
- Develop community engagement strategies, such as virtual forums or networking opportunities.
- Create visually compelling data visualizations to communicate insights.
- Compile an annual research report with actionable recommendations.
- Provide social media content showcasing research and engagement activities.
- Assist in implementing the final project, ensuring measurable outcomes.
Work Environment:
The internship is hybrid: half based in Cape Town, South Africa, and half in Marrakech, Morocco, with regular check-ins with the founder. Interns will work from a shared office space and conduct field research, requiring a commitment of at least eight hours daily.

Harvard University Art School Africa Internship Programme Requirements
- Applicant must be a continuing undergraduate student enrolled at Harvard College.
- The program requires an eight-week commitment during Summer 2025 (exact dates TBA).
- Students in all concentrations are encouraged to apply.
- Ideal students for Art School Africa are self-starters, sensitive to cultural differences, interested in Africa and/or African Studies, team-players, enthusiastic, and outgoing. Interns must have a passion for the arts and a commitment to supporting the African art community. Strong research, analytical, and communication skills are required. Proficiency in digital marketing and content creation would be beneficial.
- All applicants must have a valid passport with an expiration date of at least 6 months beyond August 2023. If an applicant does not have a valid passport, they must upload a confirmation that their passport application is in-progress.

- Personal Statement about your interest in the program (500 words)
- A writing sample (preferably from a past research report to show your research writing skills)
- Two letters of recommendation: one letter from a Harvard affiliate and one character reference from a supervisor, teacher, coach, or counselor who has known you for more than two years. Recommendations should be uploaded in CARAT by the recommender or emailed directly to [email protected] by the application deadline.
