The Academy Scholars Program at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies seeks out and supports exceptional scholars who will begin their academic careers and whose work combines fluency in a foreign language, other knowledge or expertise of other countries or regions outside of the United States and Canada, and superior skill in a social science field.

A group of people whose work shows potential as a starting point for careers in research universities or other international institutions are named Academy Scholars. The individual’s work should exhibit inventiveness, initiative, and resourcefulness.
Academy Scholars will work at Harvard University’s Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for two years as residential postdoctoral fellows. The fellows will be provided with significant financial and research support to carry out rigorous research projects and build their expertise in their respective sectors.
Fellows will get together for informal get-togethers, dinners, and seminars to discuss cutting-edge interdisciplinary approaches to their work. The fellows will be mentored by a group of academic members who serve as a selection committee, the Harvard Academy Senior Scholars.
