Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a software development program that aims to attract fresh and enthusiastic to software development. Google Summer of Code (GSoC) gives new developers a chance to learn by doing. Lasting for over 12 weeks, GSoC pairs up beginners with mentors from open-source organizations. Since its inception in 2005, the Google Summer of Code program has connected over 18,000 students with 746 open source organizations with the help of over 17,000 mentors.

Eligible Nations: All countries except Russia, Belarus, or the Donetsk People’s Republic (“DNR”) and the Luhansk People’s Republic (“LNR”)

Program Length: Large projects should take around 350 hours, while medium-sized projects should take about 175 hours.

The time allotted to execute a project might be 10 to 22 weeks.

Google Summer of Code (GSoC) Program for Software Development Enthusiasts Requirments

  • When you register, you must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must be legally permitted to work in the country where you reside during the program.
  • You must be a newbie to open source.
  • You have not previously been selected as a GSoC Student in GSoC. (Only students who passed their GSoC in 2020 or 2021 can apply again in 2022.)
  • You must live in a nation that the US does not currently have a restriction on.

Application Date and Process

  • Submit proof of enrollment in an accredited university program.
  • Identify which organization(s) you want to apply to (you can  apply to up to)
  • Submit a written application through the program site to the organization(s) with which you are applying to be a GSoC contributor for GSoC 2024.
