The University of Exeter, in collaboration with Google DeepMind, proudly presents the Research Ready Programme - a unique eight-week paid summer internship designed to empower students to excel in the ever-evolving world of artificial intelligence (Al). This programme is your chance to work on cutting-edge research projects, develop advanced technical skills, and build a network of connections with world-class researchers and leaders.
Hosted by the Department of Computer Science with support from the Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IDSAI), this programme offers a transformative experience that combines rigorous academic mentoring, hands-on research, and professional development workshops with real-world impact.

Google DeepMind Research Ready Programme Requirements
The Google DeepMind Research Ready Programme at the University of Exeter is tailored to current undergraduate students and students with only a bachelor's degree in computer science, Al, or a related technical field.
Essential criteria (all required)
- Must be a resident of the UK and eligible to pay UK home fees.
- Must have the right to live and work full-time in the UK for the duration of the programme.
- Must be in the penultimate year of their undergraduate degree or have completed an undergraduate degree in computer science, Al, or a related technical field.
- Must not be currently enrolled in or have completed a Masters or PhD programme.
Socioeconomic criteria (at least one required)
- Eligible for free school meals during secondary education.
- Residing in an area ranked in the lowest two deciles according to deprivation indices like IMD or POLAR.
- Experienced care from a local authority at any point.
- In receipt of full state support for maintenance during their undergraduate studies.
Selection Criteria
Candidates passing all the Essential criteria and one of the Socioeconomic criteria will be then evaluated across four categories:
- Academic performance: Scored based on the student's academic performance in relevant modules.
- Motivation and potential: Scored based on the personal statement and recommendation letter(s) to identify strong personal drive and commitment to research in Al and alignment with Exeter's Al research.
- Equity, diversity, and inclusion: Scored to identify students from underrepresented groups, including women, black, Asian, mixed, and minority ethnic students.
- Socioeconomic background: Scored on additional socioeconomic factors of financial constraints and access to resources.
