The Future for Religious Heritage (FRH) Photo Competition recognizes and celebrates the best photographs of religious heritage from Europe and beyond. In 2023, the competition saw impressive participation, with over 2,000 high-quality entries from more than 30 countries. This year, the competition aims to surpass these numbers and continue to highlight the beauty and diversity of religious heritage across the globe. Participants are encouraged to submit photographs that capture the essence of religious buildings, artifacts, and events, showcasing the rich tapestry of our shared heritage.

Benefits of Future for Religious Heritage (FRH) Photo Competition

  • Recognition of the top 9 photographs related to religious heritage.
  • Invitation to the awards ceremony at the FRH Biennial Conference 2026 for the winner (costs covered up to 1,000€).
  • Opportunity for finalists to participate in the FRH Biennial Conference 2026 (at their own cost).
  • The winners’ and finalists’ photographs will be included in a booklet promoted throughout Europe.
  • Usage of the submitted photos in FRH’s non-profit communications, including the website and promotional materials.

Future for Religious Heritage (FRH) Photo Competition Requirments

The competition requirements are as follows:

  • Open to everyone regardless of nationality.
  • Open to both amateur and professional photographers.

Categories

The competition has three categories as follows:

  • Religious Buildings: Photos featuring religious buildings, whether in use or abandoned, from small chapels to larger complexes, across various religious sites
  • Artifacts: Photos focusing on objects related to religious heritage, such as relics, chalices, crosses, calligraphy, mosaics, arches, statues, and more
  • People and Events: Photos capturing celebrations, special moments, or other situations where people or festivities are the main elements.

Required Documents

Following is the accepted format that all photographs should meet:

  • Pictures in JPEG or PNG format
  • Minimum resolution of 1030 x 700 pixels.
  • Ensure photographs are sharp and not blurred.
  • Photographs can be landscape or portrait
  • Each participant can submit up to one photo per category.

Selection Process and Criteria

The criteria and selection process is as follows:

  • The jury, composed of expert photographers, artists, and FRH representatives, will evaluate the entries based on content, creativity, aesthetics, and technique.
  • The jury will select the three best photos from each category, choosing one winner and eight finalists.
  • The jury’s decision will be communicated to all participants shortly after the meeting in the first week of December 2024.

Application Date and Process

  • Submit your photographs via the FRH Photo Competition website form linked below.
  • Ensure all entries are submitted no later than 30 September 2024.
  • Only the first photo received per category from each author will be considered if multiple entries are submitted.
