About Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Young Citizens Forum

Opportunity Details

Since its inception in 2000, the program has been running in Tanzania and has cultivated a strong network of over 500 alumni, many of whom now hold key leadership positions nationwide. The program is hosted at the FES office in Dares Salaam, with sessions taking place over two to three days each month for 5 months.

Participants gather for 2-3 days each session between May and November at the FES Office in Dares Salaam. The sessions address a wide range of topics and skills, including essential communication, design thinking, social justice, urbanization, the global economy, and just transition. Participants engage directly in these sessions, which also include community visits to apply what they have learned. Some sessions are conducted online.

Benefits of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Young Citizens Forum

  • FES Tanzania covers all expenses related to the program. Be aware that you will not need to pay a participation fee, either during the application process or throughout the program. Additionally, FES Tanzania will provide transport and accommodation costs for residents from upcountry and Zanzibar.

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Young Citizens Forum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Applicants must be between 21 and 35 years old.
  • Nationality and Residency: The program is open to Tanzanian citizens living in Tanzania (both Mainland and Zanzibar). Applicants must be available in the country for the full duration of the program.
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification is required. However, students currently pursuing their first degree are also eligible to apply.
  • Active Involvement: Applicants should be actively engaged in a project or initiative, or have previous experience in civil society, political parties, or trade unions.

Application Date and Process

Applications closes on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 11:55 PM (EAT). Successful applicants will be notified on March 17 to conduct the eligibility tests, which will take place on the April 3-4, 2025 for Mainland applicants and April 8, 2025 for Zanzibar applicants.
