The Moving the Migration Policy Agenda Forward (MMPAF) programme is a capacity-building initiative aimed at government officials working in migration and asylum. The programme is also open to other practitioners and students interested in managing migration and asylum policies.

Programme Overview

MMPAF consists of a series of tutor-led online courses employing various teaching and evaluation methods, including lectures and interactive sessions. Special attention is given to hands-on practical exercises, notably the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method.

Courses Offered

  1. Diaspora Engagement: 16-20 September 2024, with Prof. Melissa Siegel
  2. Migration and Development: 14-18 October 2024, with Prof. Khalid Koser
  3. Irregular Migration: 11-15 November 2024, with Lalaine Siruno
  4. Policy Coherence in Migration: 25-29 November 2024, with Prof. Ronald Skeldon

Each course runs for one week on a full-time basis. Courses are broken into smaller learning blocks, making the learning process structured and manageable. A full-time commitment of 40 hours per week is required from participants, including contact hours and self-preparation. Interactive exercises and practical workshops are emphasized to enhance learning.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in computer skills to follow an online  education programme
  • Employment as government officials in migration and/or asylum in the EU Southern Neighbourhood, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, or Silk Route countries
  • Full and written support from employers, confirming the applicant will be excused from work duties for the programme’s duration
