China University of Petroleum (Beijing) – Beijing Government Foreign Students Scholarship Requirments

  • The candidate needs to be a non-citizen of China, in good health, follow the law, and not have any criminal history. To be qualified to study in China, the applicant must fulfill the prerequisites set forth by their school for the admission of overseas students;
  • Requirements for language proficiency:

English-taught majors:

  • For undergraduate programs, applicants must submit evidence of language proficiency at the appropriate level or submit IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 75 or above. Strong Chinese language skills are preferred in applicants.
  • To be eligible for graduate programs, candidates must have an IELTS score of 6.5, a TOEFL score of 80 or higher, or documentation of acceptable language ability. Being fluent in Chinese is advantageous;
  • Expectations: Applicants wishing to apply for English-taught majors from nations where English is the official language are exempt from submitting documentation of their English language skills.

Chinese-taught majors:

  • Candidates for undergraduate programs must have an HSK-4 Chinese proficiency score of 222 or higher.
  • Candidates for the postgraduate programs must speak Chinese at an HSK-5 level or higher.
  • In order to meet the requirements for age and degree, applicants must:
    • be applying to undergraduate programs as a high school graduate who is younger than 25.
    • possess a bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years old in order to apply to master’s programs.
    • possess a master’s degree and be under 45 years old in order to apply to PhD programs.

Documents Requirement:

  • Scanned copies of every page of the China visa, the China arrival and exit record, and the passport images (480 x 720, white background).
  • The best academic transcript and certificate, with an average score of over 70% (approved translations into Chinese or English are required for materials that are not in Chinese or English).
  • Language Proficiency Certificate
  • Research and study schedule
  • Health Certificate and Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Laboratory report required)
  • Verification that there is no criminal history
  • Two recommendation letters (from an associate professor or higher; necessary for applications to postgraduate programs)
  • A supervisor’s acceptance letter (a letter of acceptance from a supervisor is required for Ph.D. applicants; it is advised for master’s program applicants to have one as well)

Important Notes:

  • This scholarship is available to China University of Petroleum (Beijing) majors in any field;
  • Scholarship recipients must always participate in the yearly assessment by the deadline. Students will no longer be eligible to receive the scholarship if they fail to participate in the annual assessment for any reason;
  • The school has the right to revoke an applicant’s eligibility for a scholarship award when it has been established that they have committed fraud during the annual evaluation and selection process.
