UN-Habitat has officially opened its call for nominations for the 2025 Scroll of Honour Award – one of the most prestigious global awards recognizing major contributions to sustainable urban development. Nominations should be received by 30 April 2025.

Launched in 1989, the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award recognizes individuals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions in the field of urban development, including improvement of the quality of urban life and provision of adequate, affordable, and accessible housing for all.
About the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award
For over 30 years, the Scroll of Honour award has recognized 196 initiatives from individuals or entities worldwide. Previous winners include Fukuoka city in Japan, French firm Veolia Environment, Rwanda’s capital city Kigali, Habitat for Humanity International, the URBAN Intergroup at the European Parliament, and Australian non-profit Wintringham Specialist Aged Care.
Nominations should be submitted through the online submission form. Self-nominations, including those for one’s own organization, programme, institute, or initiative, are not allowed. More information and details on how to nominate are available in the application guidelines.
Selection process
The Executive Director of UN-Habitat will select up to five winners following recommendations by a panel of experts and leaders in sustainable urbanization. The winners will receive the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award – a plaque engraved with the winner’s name – at the global celebration of World Habitat Day on 6 October 2025.
In selecting the winners, UN-Habitat will consider best practices, initiatives, and innovative solutions contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities. Special attention will be given to how initiatives, practices, or individuals align with the topic of World Habitat Day 2025 of urban crises response.
