About Wiki Loves Africa

Wiki Loves Africa is Africa’s largest openly-licenced photographic, video and audio contest. The 2025 theme is “Farm to Plate”.

What should YOU contribute? Pictures! Audio! Videos!
The theme Farm to Plate calls for the submission of media (photos, audio, video) that portrays fields, agricultural practices, farm products, farm machines, people farming, food transformation and processing, cooking, restaurants, dressing on plates, cooking material and the entire process (or a segment of it) that in consists of transforming farm produce into food.

Benefits of Wiki Loves Africa

There are several prizes up for grabs for quality entries: both at a national and international level. For national prizes, see what local organisers have planned in your country. 

At the international level, there are several main prize categories for Wiki Loves Africa + other additional prizes for the 2025 theme.

Media (Video, Audio, Graphics, Photo Essays):

• Audio prize : USD 700
• Narrative video prize : USD 1,000
• Reportage video prize : USD 1000
• Clip video prize : USD 200

Wiki Loves Africa Requirements

• Everyone is welcome to participate in this challenge!

Only enter images or media that visually capture the theme as it applies to "Africa".
To be considered, entries must be submitted under a free license (read about licenses here).
Get your camera, take photos of your Africa!

Application Date and Process

1. Take photos related to the theme Farm to Plate
2. Create a free accountor log in on Wikimedia Commons.
3. Consult our How to Enter page for useful advice on everything relating to the competition.
4. Make sure you follow the rules of the competition (otherwise your entries might not be eligible to win!)
5. Upload your photos – from the 1st March 2025 onwards!

Selecting the Winners

The winners will not be selected until July 2025. They will be announced in August 2025 at Wikimania.
