By bringing together young people, educators, and heritage specialists, the program seeks to highlight the significance of heritage for societies and livelihoods as well as to promote intercultural learning and interaction. Participants from various nations are realizing and learning about new roles in the preservation of cultural heritage. By visiting World Heritage sites and learning from the experiences of the host nation, they assist the young professionals in advancing local perspectives on heritage management.

Delhi, Republic of India will host the World Heritage Young Professionals Forum 2024 from 14 to 23 July 2024. This program is part of the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee in the UNESCO World Heritage Education Program framework. The theme of the Forum is “World Heritage in the 21st Century: Building Capacities and Exploring Opportunities for Youth “.

The Forum will help young professionals become more knowledgeable and capable of safeguarding, maintaining, and advancing our cultural and natural heritage. Together, they will look for ways to operationalize the World Heritage Convention for the twenty-first century, as important players in their own local communities. Along with discussing and learning in-depth information about the global ideas of sustainable development and world heritage, they will also have the chance to become acquainted with the local Indian heritage and how it is managed. The 46th session of the World Heritage Committee will hear the young professionals’ presentation of their Declaration following the Forum.

UNESCO World Heritage Young Professionals Forum Requirements

Candidates who apply for the UNESCO World Heritage Young Professionals Forum should meet the following criteria:

  • Candidates must be between the ages of 23 and 32.
  • Show your expertise in one of the following areas: digital technology, tourism, climate change, urban planning and regeneration, art history, conservation, architecture, archaeology, restoration, and World Heritage.
  • Genuinely care about and dedicated to putting the Forum’s recommendations into practice in their home nations.
  • The goal of applicants should be to increase community involvement in World Heritage property management.
  • Make yourself accessible for the entire Forum.
  • Possess a high level of English proficiency.

In addition to the general eligibility, the selection committee will consider the following elements in selecting the participants:

  • Equitable distribution of regions.
  • Equality of genders.
  • A range of backgrounds in the workplace.
  • The opportunity to share experiences inside the institution or nation of origin.
  • Proficiency and understanding of World Heritage site management techniques.
