Each year, the Iris Project offers three grants, in addition to a peer-to-peer mentoring program run by its Advisory Panel and a locally administered capacity-building program.
They understand that there are many different approaches to restoring nature, ranging from creative technological solutions to conventional land stewardship. Therefore, in an effort to remove the contextual obstacles that far too frequently prohibit young people from being able to advocate for changes connected to nature, The Iris Prize honors innovative concepts and well-established initiatives.
Benefits of The Iris Prize 2025
Prize Categories and Benefits:
- The Seed Prize: Prize Amount: $5,000
- This reward is given to a young person or group who has devised an innovative plan to preserve or restore the environment in their neighborhood. It is open to those aged 14 to 24.
- The Stem Prize: Prize Amount: $10,000
- Given to an ongoing, freshly launched, small-scale initiative. This reward falls under the 16–24 age range.
- The Iris Prize: Prize Amount: $15,000
- Given to a well-established project that has room to grow and reproduce. This reward falls under the 16–24 age range.
The Iris Prize 2025 Requirements
- The youth in charge of your initiative or organization range in age from 14 to 24. In order to be eligible for an Iris Prize, the majority of your leadership must be made up of young people with project autonomy and decision-making authority. If you do not fit within this age range, kindly do not apply.
- You agree that nature should be preserved and restored, as well as the rights of those who fight to do so.
- Projects that are financially supported or connected to bigger organizations, nonprofits, or non-governmental organizations are welcomed. Therefore, it is imperative that the young person spearheading the project maintain total autonomy and decision-making power.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of award contestants is their priority. Please be aware that in order to act as a fiscal sponsor, you must work with a local organization or non-governmental organization if you are a minor in your nation. This partner organization will be in charge of overseeing the financial award, keeping the money, and supporting you financially all along the way.
Eligible Projects:
- Projects run by young people and local leaders that are active in areas that their communities have deemed important.
- Concepts, small-scale projects, or ongoing initiatives with room for expansion and replication are all eligible for consideration.
- Dedication to inclusiveness and diversity.
- Their mission is heavily reliant on geographic and thematic variety. They take into account outstanding projects from the Global North but give priority to initiatives in the Global South, which disproportionately require their support and where it can have a greater impact.

- You will be asked to select which of the Seed, Stem, and Iris Prizes you want to apply for.
- Next, you must specify if you are applying alone, as a team, or on behalf of an organization.
The Iris Project requires applicants to answer five important questions about their project or idea:
- Describe the problem your project aims to address (150 words).
- Summarize the solution and how it tackles the problem (200 words).
- Explain the role of young people in delivering the solution (150 words).
- Describe how your project promotes diversity and inclusion (200 words).
