About Global Rule of Law Initiative 2024
Opportunity Details
The Global Rule of Law Initiative is a professional exchange and residential learning program that aims to develop a global network of judicial leaders from various countries. It is jointly offered by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Presidential Precinct.
Twenty foreign judges and magistrates will be brought to Washington, DC, and the Commonwealth of Virginia in October 2024 by the Initiative for two weeks of specialized training and networking opportunities. Together with their academic partners at William & Mary and the University of Virginia, as well as the National Center for State Courts and James Madison’s Montpelier, they will offer an extensive and immersive program that blends theoretical knowledge with real-world application to promote ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and a thorough understanding of the rule of law.
Program Agenda:
Activities in Williamsburg, Virginia; Charlottesville, Virginia; and Washington, DC will be included in the two-week program for 2024.
Case studies, simulations, interactive exercises, and experiential learning will be prioritized in the teaching methodology.

Benefits of Global Rule of Law Initiative 2024
- For the length of the 2024 program, participants will receive full reimbursement for all transportation, housing, group meals, and group admissions.
- It is expected of invited participants to obtain a visa in order to enter the United States. Each participant will get a letter of invitation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to aid in the visa application process.
Global Rule of Law Initiative 2024 Requirements
- Judges and magistrates in their early or mid-career stages from Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and the Americas are the target audience for this pilot program. The best applicants will have a track record of enforcing the law in their respective areas.
Additional qualifications include:
- Five to seven years of experience in handling criminal or civil matters as a judge
- A resolute dedication to honesty and moral behavior
- A track record of leadership
- A readiness to impart and use newly acquired information, abilities, and viewpoints in order to strengthen the rule of law
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities
- English proficiency
