About Belgian JPO Programme
Opportunity Details
The Junior Professional Officers (JPO) program at the United Nations is a training initiative to provide young professionals with the opportunity to gain experience in a number of UN organizations, funds, programs and UN agencies that finance or implement development projects.
As a JPO you will be employed by a UN organization that has an active cooperative relationship with Belgian international development policy and is located in one of the 14 partner countries of the Belgian Development Cooperation or in the regional or head office of the organization. JPOs are trained by a senior staff member and are involved in the identification, formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs.
Currently, JPOs are funded in the following 18 selected partner organizations, funds, programs and UN agencies:
- UNDP (United Nations Development Programme)
- UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund)
- WFP (World Food Programme)
- FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization)
- UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees)
- WHO (World Health Organization)
- UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East)
- ILO (International Labor Organization)
- UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund)
- UNAIDS (Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS)
- UN Women (the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women)
- UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme)
- IOM (International Organization for Migration)
- OHCHR (UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights)
- OCHA (UN Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs)
- OSRSG-CAAC (Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict)
- OSRSG-SVC (Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflict)
- CEB (United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination)

Belgian JPO Programme Requirements
Do you have Belgian nationality? If yes, then you must also meet the following conditions:
- You have a master's degree.
- You have at least two years of professional experience. This experience must be relevant to the chosen position and must be explained in your motivation letter.
- You are 32 years or younger (on December 31 of the call year).
