The Fellowship
The Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership and the Next Generation, established in 2014 and inaugurated by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, aims to develop future policymakers and drive positive change in world affairs. The Academy equips future leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks to make a lasting, positive impact on international affairs.
The Richard and Susan Hayden Academy Fellowship offers candidates at the early-to-mid-stage of their careers the opportunity to spend ten months at Chatham House working on an individual research project of their choosing. This fellowship is a joint initiative with Richard and Susan Hayden.

Fellows are encouraged to align their proposals with Chatham House’s research programmes:
- Digital Society Initiative: Exploring alternative technology governance models and innovative policy responses for a healthy digital commons.
- Europe Programme: Examining the future of the EU, safeguarding European security, and Europe’s positioning in the world.
- Global Economy and Finance Programme: Investigating the potential end of the dollar’s dominance and the legitimacy of global economic governance.
- International Security Programme: Addressing shared challenges in space and cyberspace, and evolving security threats.
- UK in the World Programme: Focusing on the UK’s science and technology capabilities, strategic international relations, and the impact of UK foreign policy.
Richard and Susan Hayden Academy Fellowship Requirements
The successful applicant will:
- Have relevant background experience and a demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.
- Hold an undergraduate/postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Show proven leadership potential and commitment to Chatham House’s mission and values.
- Be able to communicate how the fellowship will enable them to create a positive impact.
- Demonstrate proficiency in speaking English.
