About Mastercard Foundation Summer School Scholarship

During the Summer School June's session, selected students will have the opportunity to discover Sciences Po’s courses through a main course in social sciences (taught in English) or French language, and to participate in a tailor made course ‘Transformative leadership to design and scale solutions’ dedicated to Scholars, preparing them to build innovative solutions to tackle social and environmental issues.

Benefits of Mastercard Foundation Summer School Scholarship

Scholarships cover the full cost of tuition and living expenses in France, throughout the recipient’s time studying at Sciences Po.

TAILORED SUPPORT

In addition to funding tuition, Sciences Po provides Scholars with a range of tailored resources to support their studies and facilitate their transition into employment. Specifically, Scholars have access to:

• Support in the run-up to leaving for France, tailored support when they arrive, and an official welcome programme to help them integrate in their first few weeks.
• Housing in Paris reserved for Mastercard Foundation Scholars.
• Personalised support throughout their studies, ensuring every student has the best possible experience at Sciences Po.
• Careers support: guidance to help students identify their professional aspirations; a careers fair focusing on employment and internship opportunities in Africa; access to the university’s business incubator (FR) and its network of employers and alumni working in Africa; opportunities to attend careers support workshops, conferences, etc.
• A mentoring programme co-run with the Africa Division of Sciences Po Alumni.
• Access to the wide range of general resources Sciences Po provides to guide students through every step of their studies.

Mastercard Foundation Summer School Scholarship Requirments

Eligible applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• You must be a citizen of a Sub-Saharan African country;
• You must currently be a Scholar from the Mastercard Foundation Scholar Program in  a partner institution;
• You must demonstrate a track record of leadership and/or service within your community;
• You must show a willingness to bring about change in Africa and making a genuine impact on the region in the areas of public policy and major political, environmental and societal transitions.

 

Application Date and Process

Stage 1

Candidates must apply online on the dedicated website  from 5 January to 5 February 2024.

Candidates are asked to:

• Provide personal information;
• Attach a letter of recommendation from the partner institution supporting their application as well as a Mastercard Foundation Scholarship certificate;
• Provide information and proof concerning their educational and extra-curricular experiences.

As part of their application, candidates for the scholarship are asked to outline their diverse experiences, their vision of the issues that specifically affect Africa and explain how they want to become changemakers on the continent. The candidates’ answers are reviewed by the scholarship award committee.

Stage 2

The results of the attribution of the scholarships will be announced in February 2024.

Stage 3

Selected candidates must finalise their application at the Sciences Po Summer school following the instructions that will be sent to them by email at the time of their admission into the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
