About ABSIP-STANLIB Bursary Programme

Opportunity Details

STANLIB, in partnership with ABSIP, is committed to empowering historically disadvantaged students, as defined by the B-BBEE Act, by offering comprehensive funding support for those pursuing a career in the financial services sector. Eligible students who are passionate about making a difference in the financial services industry are encouraged to apply.

Bursaries are to be offered for study towards an Investment Management career related qualification at the following universities:

  2. Rhodes University
  3. Stellenbosch University
  4. University of Cape Town
  5. University of Johannesburg
  6. University of KwaZulu-Natal
  7. University of Limpopo
  8. University of Pretoria
  9. University of Venda
  10. University of Western Cape
  11. University of Witwatersrand
  12. North-West University
  13. University of the Free State
  14. University of South Africa
  15. University of Fort Hare

Benefits of ABSIP-STANLIB Bursary Programme

Bursary Covers:

  • Tuition
  • Accommodation (preferably on campus, but if not, we will assess)
  • Book allowance (i.e., Textbooks/course material)
  • Stipend (based on assessment of financial need) and
  • Laptop (based on assessment of financial need)

ABSIP-STANLIB Bursary Programme Requirements

Bursary candidates:

  • Bursaries are to be offered to students who wish to pursue a career in financial services. Specific preference will be given to candidates studying Bachelor of Business Science, Bachelor of Commerce, and Bachelor of Science; with subjects in Economics, Business Finance, Investment Management, Financial Analysis, Mathematics and Statistics 
  • Candidates must be full-time students, no permanent work experience (i.e. may have had vacation work experience, but no permanent work experience)
  • The bursary will be reviewed annually based on academic performance and availability of funds. 

Bursary Criteria:

      To qualify for a bursary the following qualifying criteria must be met:

  • Exceptional academic performance (i.e., an average of 75% in academic performance in core academic modules/subjects)
  • Optional but preferable: demonstration of leadership qualities and participation in extramural activities such as sports, debating, chess clubs
  • Financial need
  • Be a Black South African citizen, as defined by the B-BBEE Act, accepted and or enrolled at the above-mentioned universities

  • First year students who qualify to enrol at university

  • Returning students who are progressing to next academic year

  • Students who strive for academic excellence

  • Students pursuing qualifications related to the financial services sector

  • One page motivation letter of why the candidate wants to study or are studying towards an Investment Management qualification
