The İstanbul Photo Awards is an international news photography competition run by the global news agency Anadolu Ajansı for over a century. The competition seeks to advance news photography and presents a viewpoint influenced by the region’s singular location at the crossroads of many cultures. The accolades honor the deeds of brave and gifted professional photographers from all over the world. One of the world’s most well-known news photography competitions is now the Istanbul Photo Awards.
The application is completely free, and the contest’s generous awards program supports the efforts and commitment of news photographers worldwide.
Categories:
- Single News: Applications are limited to news-related single images; photographers may submit up to four images per application.
- Story News: Photographers may apply with up to two separate stories for any news-related image series. Each application requires the submission of ten images.
- Single Sports: All single-image applications about sports. You can only submit one image per application. Photographers can use up to four different pictures.
- Story Sports: All sports-related image series applications. Ten images must be submitted per application. Photographers may apply two different stories.
- Single Nature & Environment: All nature and environment-related, single image applications. Only one image can be submitted per application. Photographers may apply four different images.
- Story Nature & Environment: All nature and environment-related image series applications. Ten images must be submitted per application. Photographers may apply two different stories.
- Single Portrait: All portrait-related, single-image applications. Only one image can be submitted per application. Photographers may apply four different photos.
- Story Portrait: All portrait-related image series applications. Ten images must be submitted per application. Photographers may apply two different stories.
- Single Daily Life: All daily life-related, single-image applications. Only one image can be submitted per application. Photographers may apply four different images.
- Story Daily Life: All daily life-related image series applications. Ten images must be submitted per application. Photographers may apply two different stories.

11th Istanbul Photo Award Requirements
Entrants must meet these requirements:
- Photos have accurate and pertinent information. Photos submitted must have been taken in 2024 (between 1 Jan. 2024 and 31 Dec. 2024).
- The photographer is responsible for supplying precise personal details such as name, age, and company, as well as image details like date and location.
- All submissions must include the required metadata, such as the title, description, creation date, city, and country, embedded into the photographs (IPTC). The information and category of the photos can be changed up until the deadline.
- English must be used for captions in photographs. Please make sure the caption limits are met before uploading any images.
- No signatures, stamps, or other identifying marks are permitted on the entry anywhere. The photographer’s name or business shouldn’t be mentioned in the captions.
- Simple color corrections are the only permitted techniques; digital manipulation and Photoshop effects are prohibited. Signatures on the image or in the caption are not allowed.
- Photographers need to be the rightful owners of the submitted photos in terms of copyright.
- Photographs may violate the rights of third parties.
- Photographers are welcome to submit applications for published and unpublished images in all categories simultaneously.
- Photographers can submit up to four distinct images for Single categories and two distinct narratives for Story categories.
- It is not possible to submit the same photo under two distinct categories. Applications in the story category need to have ten pictures.
- Please note that this is a professional-only competition, and the Istanbul Photo Awards jury may request documentation of the photo’s source or proof of publication in print or online magazines or newspapers.
