About 10th Jalón Ángel International Photography Prize 2024

Throughout his 50-year career, Jalón Ángel, whose real name was Ángel Hilario García de Jalón Hueto (1898–1976), was one of the most well-known names in Spanish portrait photography. With an exceptional ability to express social and human qualities, this photographer received his initial training in Logroño and refined his skills in Lyon and then Paris at the start of the 1900s.

This prize pays tribute to Jalón Ángel’s memory by offering two yearly categories: Portrait, where he excelled nationally, and Travel and Traditions, where he devoted a significant portion of his time and artistic vision to photography. Additionally, a new special category for cultural heritage has been included to this call.

Categories:

One of the following categories must apply to the works:

• Portrait: either unplanned or planned. One or more people may be the image’s protagonist (group portrait). Photographs of objects or plants, or portraits of animals, will not be permitted; the image must center on a person.
• Travel: images that capture a nation’s natural features, cultural quirks, or customs; may feature urban or rural settings, but the human form is never the primary or sole subject.
• Cultural Heritage: pictures that are representative of the historical, artistic, and/or cultural legacy typical of a town, nation, or community and that have been preserved for the present and passed on to future generations. These images might be tangible or intangible, and they are important to the culture of a town, a region, or all of mankind.

Benefits of 10th Jalón Ángel International Photography Prize 2024

The following prizes will be awarded:

• Award for the best portraiture in the photography division. Prize: Diploma, trophy, and 1000 euros*.
• The best travel-related photography award. Prize: Diploma, trophy, and 1000 euros*.
• The Cultural Heritage category’s best photo award. Prize: Diploma, trophy, and 1,000 euros*.
• The economic withholdings outlined by the Spanish Ministry of Finance apply to this sum.

10th Jalón Ángel International Photography Prize 2024 Requirements

• Any author with an original photograph who is of legal age, whether Spanish or not, is eligible to participate.
• A maximum of one photo from the same author may be submitted in each category.
• Artificial Intelligence cannot be employed in whole or in part of the image, but it can be done using any photographic technique.
• It will be sent digitally. The submitted photo must adhere to the following technical specifications: it must be in.jpg format, have 300 pixels per inch, and measure 50 centimeters on its longest side. The weight of the photo will be no more than 9 megabytes and no less than 2 megabytes. The aforementioned photo will not be eligible for the prize if this condition is not fulfilled.
• They could be in color or black and white.
• The original photo won’t be altered by much chemical or digital retouching; only minor adjustments to the lighting, contrast, and color balance will be made. The aforementioned photo will not be eligible for the prize if this condition is not fulfilled.
• The declaration of authorship and the registration form may be completed in any of the following languages:
  • In Spanish
  • In English
  • In French
• There will be no identifying elements (signature, logo, initials, frames, graphics, etc.) on the photos that could be used to determine who took them. The aforementioned photo will not be eligible for the prize if this condition is not fulfilled.
