Opportunity Details

The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation was founded to offer financial aid to deserving students who are having difficulty pursuing their education in underdeveloped countries as well as to Japanese students enrolled in universities overseas. By assisting these students in acquiring cutting-edge knowledge and strengthening their good intentions, the foundation hopes to build bridges across cultures and foster friendships between Japan and the rest of the world.

Benefits of Honjo International Scholarship Foundation Scholarships

The scholarships are awarded each month for the shortest time it takes to earn a degree, hence the awarding periods vary:

  • ¥210,000 a month for one to two years of school
  • ¥190,000 per month for a degree lasting three years
  • ¥160,000 a month for four to five years of education

Honjo International Scholarship Foundation Scholarships Requirements

In order to qualify for this scholarship, international students need to fulfill all of the prerequisites mentioned below:

  • Applicants shouldn’t be a citizen of Japan.
  • The student must apply for a course at a Japanese graduate school beginning in April 2024 or enroll as of that date.
  • Applications are not accepted from students who are enrolled in professional graduate schools.
  • Nonetheless, a student may apply if they are able to submit a research plan.
  • There should be a longer enrollment period than 12 months leading up to graduation.
  • For the Ph.D. program, applicants must begin their courses by the age of 35; in the master’s program, they must begin their coursework at the age of 30 (no exceptions).
  • As a future professional goal, the student should have a strong desire to serve in their native nation.
  • They ought to be well-versed in the concept of global friendship.
  • They ought to be kind and show up to the Foundation’s events.
  • They ought to participate as an alumni member in the network.
  • Capable of having a simple conversation in Japanese because all interviews will take place in Japanese.

Additional requirements: 

  • Application materials cannot be mailed.
  • It is possible to update or replace the data you have provided.
  • The applicants will not receive their application materials back.
  • Once the scholarship period has begun, the student cannot change their field of study.
  • Applications from people whose enrollment time is shorter than a year are not accepted.

Documents Requirement:

Candidates need to get ready the following paperwork:

  • Academic transcript (in either English or Japanese; if it is written in a different language, a translation needs to be appended).
  • The undergraduate course’s academic transcript is required.
  • A transcript from the College of Technology (Kōsen school system) is also necessary if you transfer to the university.
  • Research Idea: Write in Japanese using the provided example (MS Word template).
  • A letter of recommendation from your managerdocuments attesting to admittance, such as acceptance letters and admission letters, etc.
  • A 500kB face photo contained in a.jpg or.gif file A two-minute movie discussing the applicant’s research proposal (1GB maximum size, two minutes in length,.mp4 or.mov file, with Japanese or English as the language)

The following should be included in the proposal:

  • What will be the topic of your research?
  • How will the knowledge you gain from your studies in Japan benefit your home country?
  • What are your accomplishments in terms of scholarship, research, and societal contributions?
  • A letter of recommendation from the supervisor—who may be a referee from your country—in either Japanese or English.
